We help families bring learning back online
(starting with what’s happening at home)
When home feels calmer and safer, courage returns — and learning can start to come back online.
Lights On helps you restore calm and connection first — so learning becomes possible again (at home and in education).

What Lights On means
Heartset –
creating calm and connection
even under pressure.
Mindset –
seeing disengagement as a signal (not a character flaw):
choosing a safer next step, not more pressure.
Skillset –
daily rhythms and repair tools that help your home feel steadier
so learning can stay online.

Meet Julia Black
Julia Black is the founder of Lights On® Learning. She helps parents shift what’s happening at home so children can re-engage with learning. With over 15 years of experience designing award-winning learning environments, including BAFTA recognition, Julia has worked at the intersection of creativity, education, and human potential.
As a parent of two thriving young adults, Julia brings her lived experience to her professional expertise. She understands the challenges families face, from exhaustion and overwhelm to the deep desire to help children shine, and she knows what it takes to guide them through.
Everything Julia teaches comes back to one principle: when a child feels safer, learning returns. When a parent can bring steadiness and connection, the “switch-off” starts to soften — and the spark returns.
Julia’s approach is playful yet practical, compassionate yet bold. She has coached hundreds of parents to switch on their energy, reimagine learning, and lead their families with confidence and joy. Her vision is simple: when parents shift the signal at home, children stop bracing — and start believing in themselves again.
‘It has been such a pleasure to work with you. I’m so in awe of your super power – not only what you see in people but the way you communicate with them and the ease with which you see their next steps.’ — Helen
Why we do what we do
Because every family deserves to flourish.

Purpose
To help families move from daily learning battles to calmer connection — so children can re-engage without pressure.

Mission
To give parents practical tools to steady themselves and shift the signal at home — so learning comes back online.

Vision
A world where families feel calmer and more connected — and children feel able to try, fail, and learn again.

Values
because courage grows when people feel steady enough to try.
Courage Counts
We help parents find the courage to lead with light, even in the dark moments.
Authenticity Rules
We encourage parents to show up as their true selves, so their families can do the same.
Growth Spirals
We believe growth is never linear — parents (and families) flourish through spirals of learning, action and reflection.
